Lorna Peterson Prize Fund
A place for honoring Five Colleges' late longtime leader by donating to the Lorna Peterson Prize Fund.
Lorna Peterson, whose career at Five Colleges, Incorporated (FCI) spanned 29 years, beginning in 1980 and including service as Executive Director from 1990 to 2009, died on March 16, 2024.
During Lorna's tenure, the Five College Consortium - Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and Smith Colleges, and UMass Amherst - saw significant growth, including the establishment of the Five College Center for World Languages, the construction of a 54-mile high-speed internet loop called Five College Net, and the development of 11 of the now 17 certificate programs shared by the campuses, to name just a few of her many accomplishments.
Upon her retirement, Five Colleges initiated the Lorna Peterson Prize, given annually to a student who has demonstrated a commitment to collaboration. Lorna delighted in visiting the FCI offices each year to meet the winning student.
In January 2024 an endowed fund was created to enable the continuation and potential expansion of the prize. Five Colleges, in partnership with Lorna's family, is now accepting donations dedicated to this tribute.
On behalf of Five Colleges, the Peterson Family, and so many who have been
helped and supported by Lorna, thank you!
