2021 FCCMS Internship Project List (as of February 19, 2021)

FCCMS summer internships offer students enrolled in the five campuses financial support ($3,200-$4,200) for 10-week summer research experiences at approved marine laboratories.  Stipends are determined by the student's cost for travel and living expenses and vary by project.

Note: Several summer 2021 internships may be remote only, with no field/lab work. Stipends may be reduced for remote internships.

You do not need to be working on the certificate to be eligible for these internships. However, preference is given to students needing to complete a research project for the FCCMS certificate. Juniors are given priority during selection. International students may apply, but will need a U.S. social security number to receive funding. Seniors graduating in May are not eligible.

You must be an undergraduate attending Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College or the University of Massachusetts-Amherst to be eligible for these internships.

MOUNT HOLYOKE COLLEGE students may be able to use their Lynk funding for these internships and are strongly encouraged to meet all Lynk application deadlines in addition to completing the FCCMS application.

These may include: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) labs, US Fish and Wildlife Service field sites, National Estuarine Research Reserves (NERRs),  National Audubon Society, Shoals Marine Lab, UMass Gloucester Marine Station, and other public and private marine research institutions across the United States.

Past internship opportunities have included participation in research on marine mammals, sea turtles, seabirds, seagrass, salt marsh ecology and restoration, fish biology/ecology and climate change. Interns have the opportunity to gain valuable experience conducting fieldwork, processing samples in the lab, performing data analysis, and participating in research cruises.These internships may provide an excellent opportunity to work towards fulfilling FCCMS certificate requirements for field/lab work and independent research.
