Local Organizations
The Center for Feldenkrais and Movement Arts, Northampton, MA
The Center for Feldenkrais and Movement Arts practices movement as a vital element to one’s overall health and well-being and believes that change and improved quality of life are available to all of us. The Center provides a variety of offerings to help individuals listen to the wisdom of their own bodies as a way to find increased ease and comfort in everyday living and to find joy and creativity through moving: Feldenkrais classes and private sessions, a wide range of workshops, Dance for Parkinson's classes, and EFT Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique). The Center offers opportunities for physical and emotional healing through movement.
The School for Contemporary Dance and Thought, Northampton, MA
The School for Contemporary Dance and Thought (SCDT) is a performance, research, and education platform for artists of all ages to engage in experimentation and continued learning through dance. The school maintains virtual and physical spaces to connect local, regional, and international artists through programming that emphasizes multiplicity, curiosity, and personal choice. Central to SCDT's purpose is an abiding respect for the tradition and history of dance while continuing to challenge established concert dance ideals and contribute to the evolution of the field. SCDT engages artists and the public through artist talks, performances, classes, and workshops.
Balanced Birch Studio, North Amherst, MA
Balanced Birch Studio is a Classical Pilates® and GYROTONIC® educational community engaging students through authentic instruction to feel reconnection to their bodies, confidence in their day-to-day movement and growth toward personal challenges. Balanced Birch Studio offers private and group classes with personalized attention to young movers and dancers and discounts for college dance students.
Regional Organizations
freeskewl, Brooklyn, NY (+Zoom)
Launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, freeskewl is a platform for online movement classes, discussions, performances, and community centered around a praxis of adaptation and experimentation. Since its conception this past March, freeskewl has hosted over 600 classes taught by over 70 teachers. freeskewl prioritizes artists. Income from classes is paid at an accessible sliding scale rate directly to teaching artists with no participants turned away for lack of funds. freeskewl offers class, performance, and event opportunities virtually on Zoom and in person in New York City. Founded by Smith College Dance BA and MFA alums.
Jacob’s Pillow, Becket, MA
Jacob’s Pillow is a National Historic Landmark, recipient of the National Medal of Arts, and home to America's longest-running international dance festival. Each year thousands of people from across the U.S. and around the globe visit the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts to experience the Festival with more than 50 dance companies and 500 free performances, talks, and events; train at The School at Jacob’s Pillow, one of the most prestigious professional dance training centers in the U.S.; explore the Pillow’s rare and extensive dance Archives; and take part in numerous Community Programs designed to educate and engage dance audiences of all ages. Jacob’s Pillow offers countless opportunities for artists and community members to participate in classes, events, performances, programs, and learning.
