Dancers will create many short studies based on elements of dance composition, space, time, energy. Exploring the use of imagery, props and various forms of music as source material, they will create solos and small group studies. A background in dance improvisation is highly recommended.

Open to DANCE and BFA-DANCE majors only. Open to non-dance majors with permission of the instructor.

At least one day a week will be devoted to group improvisation and exploration of movement elements and choreographic concepts; the other day will be devoted to the performance of the assignments. Assignments can be created in any dance idiom, as long as the focus of the assignment is clear. The term will conclude with a final work that is presented for the class and a critical paper consisting of analysis of each student?s final presentation as it relates to the compositional principles addressed in the class.

Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
