A series of 10 lectures will be given to illustrate the use of vibrational spectroscopy (Raman and infrared) to characterize the structure of polymers. This course will begin with the fundamentals of optical activity, intensity, single chain structure and condensed states. The course will then move on to the demonstration of various experimental techniques (actual laboratory experiments) generally employed for various samples including films, powders, fibers and solution or melts in addition to imaging capabilities. The last few lectures will focus on the application of vibrational spectroscopy to elucidate polymer structures.
Permission is required for interchange registration during the add/drop period only.
