E.J. Murphy Scholarship

E.J. Murphy scholarships are awarded to Five College students conducting research on marine or coastal systems. Students may use the award for field/laboratory analysis or to present their research at scientific conferences and workshops. Research can be on any aspect of modern or ancient marine and coastal systems. Awards are granted up to $500.00.
*Funding for field courses and for terrestrial/freshwater research is not provided.*

Congratulations to our 2008
E.J. Murphy Scholarship Recipients:

Kevin Lamontagne of The University of Massachusetts-Amherst for the study of the effects of an endoparasite on the condition and survival of bluefish during critical life stages.

Morgan Lindemayer of The University of Massachusetts-Amherst for the study of large pelagic predators(tuna, shark, dolphin, billfish) and the relationship of predator/prey body size. She will present her research to the Southern New England Chapter of the American Fisheries Society.

Conor McDowell of Amherst College for quantifying the effects of microbial mats on the erosion, transportation, and deposition of sand grains in a unidirectional flow.

Rachel Neurath of Smith College for the study of the effects of mercury deposition on Block Island.
