Institutionalizing Global Women's Studies, the Center's 2001-2008 project begun with a grant from the Ford Foundation, builds on the successes of Curricular Crossings (1995-1999) to infuse women's studies scholarship more deeply with the perspectives of international scholars and globally defined research.
Since 2001, grant funds brought two to three international scholars to the Center each year for semester-long residencies. Ford Associates taught one course in women's studies at one of the Five Colleges while engaging in their own research at the Center. Collaborations and interaction with Five College faculty served to redefine the perspective of the field while developing courses more attentive to international as well as gendered issues. Conversely, international scholars themselves gained access to essential networks, creating a kind of mutual aid through networking. In this manner the Center advanced women's studies both locally and worldwide.
Our Institutionalizing Global Women's Studies grant ended as of 2007-2008, but we continue to welcome international scholars as Research Associates each year.
