| Plant Ecology | | Course Number | BIO 364-01-LEC | | Course Title | Plant Ecology | | Department | Biology | | Campus | Smith College | | Course Description | This course surveys the environmental factors, historical processes, and ecological interactions that determine the distribution and abundance of plant species in the landscape. The class will examine how plant communities are assembled and what processes drive their structure. We will focus in particular on plant communities of the Northeast, using examples from the landscape around western Massachusetts to investigate key ecological concepts in the field and to provide students with hands-on experience in research techniques. Prerequisite: a course in plant biology, ecology or environmental science, or permission of the instructor. Laboratory (BIO 365) must be taken concurrently. |
