Amherst College Safer Rooms

Amherst College has a new project to aid any Five College women who are stranded at Amherst College late at night on the weekends after the PVTA stops running (around 1:50 a.m.).

Women at the college have volunteered to provide safe rooms where stranded women can spend the night. Two Amherst College women will be on call on a given night and will be available after the last PVTA bus. Stranded women can call Public Safety at x2291 (413-542-2291) to access the program. Either the woman on call or Public Safety will escort them to safer rooms.

Posters at bus stops and within residence halls will guide women on how to get a safer room. In addition, business cards will be produced with emergency numbers on all campuses and will be distributed at all five campuses.
