A search committee as varied as the consortium it represents has been named to take on the task of replacing the longtime leader of Five Colleges, Inc. Lorna Peterson announced in April that she will retire as executive director in June, 2009. She has led the 43-year-old consortium of Amherst, Hampshire, Smith and Mount Holyoke colleges and the University of Massachusetts Amherst since 1990. Smith College President Carol Christ, who is president of the Five College board, recently named an executive recruitment firm and assembled a search committee to recommend a replacement for Peterson. The committee, representing each campus and Five Colleges’ major constituencies, is made up of: Tony Marx, president, Amherst College; committee chair Christoph Cox, associate professor of philosophy, Hampshire College Mary Jo Maydew, vice president for finance and administration, Mount Holyoke College Christopher Loring, director of libraries, Smith College Charlena Seymour, senior vice chair for academic affairs and provost, University of Massachusetts Amherst. The search firm, Storbeck/Pimentel and Associates, specializes in higher education and nonprofit recruitment and has assisted Five Colleges in past searches. The search will proceed on a timetable that will assure appointment of a new executive director by the spring of 2009. Page created 6/19/08 Home
